Not-enoughness travels
Brown in India, ‘too Black’ in Bogotá, ‘too poor’ in Boston—same caste code, new ZIP.
I’m soldering a sentence into a stretched banana-leaf canvas today:
Water tastes different at the top of the stairs.
The leaf buckles when heat meets sap, leaving gullies that trap turmeric dust. The brighter the yellow, the deeper the burn—proof that exclusion leaves colour long after the flame dies.
Why the stairway metaphor? Because caste logic keeps sliding: from colonial Bogotá’s Casta paintings to Jim-Crow drinking fountains to housing queues in most global cities. Same rule, fresh staircase · · · and someone always stands lower.
If you’ve ever been told you weren’t enough—not white enough, rich enough, straight enough—hit reply (anonymity guaranteed). Your words may guide the next scorch mark.
